Mercury is
a toxic substance. It can accumulate in the brain, kidneys, and
gastrointestinal track. How it affects an individual depends on one’s
specific biochemistry: genetics, nutrient status, hormone status, and
enzyme levels. Some of the symptoms are:
Mental
.
Depression
. Indecision
. Memory Loss
. Poor Concentration
. Tremors
Physical
.
Oral distress signs
. Anemia
. Headache
. Chronic Pain
. Chronic Fatigue
. Insomnia
. Constricted Vision
“Mad as a
Hatter” was aptly stated because hatters suffered the affects of a
mercury dipping solution used to shape the felt.
Testing
There is no perfect way to
measure mercury toxicity. Blood & urine tests can reveal problems.
Hair analysis can also indicate mercury levels of concern.
Treatment
Your
dentist may recommend replacement of amalgams with gold or porcelain.
Although this will significantly reduce mercury absorption, the removal
process can release more mercury into the body.
Certain
foods & supplements may have a chelating (metal binding) effect,
thus helping eliminate mercury. Increasing daily intake of Cilantro,
Garlic, Zinc Mineral Supplements & Antioxidants such as Vitamin A, C
& E is beneficial.
Detoxification
is an intra-venous (IV) treatment that removes mercury from the blood.
The specific chelating agent for binding mercury is DMPS
(2.3-Dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid).
After an initial injection
to test for allergic reaction, DMPS is administered via an IV push. The
process takes about 1/2 hour. You will then collect a 24-hour urine
sample for testing in the USA. 1 or 2 days later you will be given an IV
vitamin & mineral treatment to ensure adequate supplementation &
avoid depletion of good minerals. Depending on your test results you may
require 5 to 15 more treatments.
Adverse reactions to DMPS
are rare. Always eat a good meal prior to procedures. Immediate
reactions may include dizziness & nausea. Other noted side effects
include chills, fever or allergic itching or rashes. Inform your doctor
if you experience any of these symptoms.
Fee Schedule
- .
Initial Consultation: $200
. Intravenous DMPS $150/treatment
. 24 Hour Urine Test $177
. Intravenous Vitamin & Mineral Treatment
$120 / treatment
. Follow Up Assessment $100.00

Mercury
sometimes known as quicksilver, is named for the speedy Roman god
who served as messenger for the other gods. The silver-white chemical is
the only common metal that is a liquid at room temperature. It is used
in thermometers, barometers, some batteries, as well as dental amalgams.
Unfortunately it has infiltrated our water, our fish & our air.
In 1995 worldwide
use of mercury was 70,000 kg.
Mercury
dental amalgams are those ‘silvery’ fillings in our teeth. They are
a compound of 50% mercury with silver, tin, copper & zinc making up
the balance. There has been a great deal of controversy over the use of
amalgam fillings. In 1859 it was approved for use after a previous ban
was lifted. Several researchers have since demonstrated that mercury in
amalgams is not stable, including Calgary’s own Murry Vimy & F.L
Lorschider. On the contrary, the Canadian & American Dental
Associations still approves its use.
Although I cannot
legally throw it in the trash, bury it in the ground, or send it to a
landfill for disposal, it is still supposed to be safe in my mouth?
