CHELATION THERAPY - PATIENT GUIDE - INITIAL VISIT

On your first visit you will be asked to complete a detailed questionnaire. Your assessment with the doctor will be about 1 hour in length.  It will include a review of your medical history, a complete physical and advice on an appropriate treatment program. If you choose to proceed with chelation therapy, you will require lab tests.

Lab Tests

All lab work must be received before treatment can begin. The list of tests generally ordered are:

CBC Albumin Alkaline Phosphate
AST Bilirubin Calcium Creatinine
Glucose Chloride Protein-total Urate
Urea Sodium Potassium Chloride
CO2 s-TSH Cholesterol (HDL & LDL)
Trigylcerides Routine Urine
Glyohemoglobin AIC  -  if diabetic

Lab work is re-ordered approximately every 5 chelation treatments.

Cardiovision

Arteries are responsible for moving the majority of blood through the vascular tree. Consequently, non-flexible or hardened arteries cause the heart to work much harder when it is forced to push blood through partially occluded vessels. This extra strain on the heart and the resulting blockages are a root cause of cardiovascular disease. Until the invention of CardioVision, there was no easy, inexpensive or quick way to determine if a person’s vessels had lost flexibility or elasticity in the brachial artery.

Doctor’s Harper, Mayhew, Wilmot & Young strongly recommend completion of this test, in order to get a baseline reading, followed with a repeat test, after chelation, if the baseline reading is abnormal.

CHELATION TREATMENTS

Prior to each treatment patients are asked to:

  • NOT take your vitamin & mineral supplements the morning of your treatment. Take all other medications.

  • Eat a healthy meal prior to treatment & bring a healthy snack to eat half-way through. Filtered water is supplied. Treatments will not be administered if you have not eaten.

  • Weigh yourself on the scale in the clinic before each treatment & report your weight to the nurses.

  • Inform the nurse of your general condition. Please notify us of any illness, changes in tolerance to diet, supplements, exercise and any medication changes.

Chelation treatments are administered via an IV (intravenous) drip while you are resting in one of our comfortable chairs. Insertion of the IV can produce a momentary sting & perhaps a little bruising. During treatments you are able to read, talk to your neighbour, listen to music on headsets, watch videos, and go to the washroom. Many people fall asleep!

Contents of the IV Bag

The contents of the bags are listed below. Dosages are calculated specifically for each individual depending on their size, the severity of illness and the level of kidney function.

The following are mixed in a carrier solution of 250ml or 500ml of sterile water:

EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid) which is the major chelating agent. It is an amino acid which has a strong affinity for heavy metals and calcium. It binds with metals and is completely excreted through he kidneys.

ASCORBIC ACID (Vitamin C) is another chelator and a major antioxidant. It protects against free radicals, helps cell integrity, boosts the immune system, is a cancer prevention agent and helps reversal of heart diseases.

MAGNESIUM SULPHATE - “Heart Attack Stopper”, lowers blood pressure and protects arterial lining.

SODIUM BICARBONATE - buffering agent, reduces the sting.

HYDROXYCOBALAMIN (Vitamin B12) - helps in digestion, memory and fatigue.

PYROXIDINE (Vitamin B6) helps prevent arteriosclerosis, builds cancer immunity and is essential for proper brain function.

B-COMPLEX - multifaceted vitamin. Aids in energy production, maintaining nerves, skin, hair and gastrointestinal tract.

The number of treatments recommended by the doctor depends on the condition of the patient. Generally up to 20 treatments are recommended for preventive purposes. For therapeutic value 30 or 40 treatments are required.

VITAMINS

Supplements

It is extremely important to take the prescribed supplements during your chelation program. Please note that the EDTA depletes some of the good nutrient minerals as well as the undesirable. The supplements will enhance chelation therapy as well as prevent deficiencies. The supplements are available in the clinic & the following are recommended:

Ultra Balance III Multivitamin: Take 2 tablets, 3 X a day with meals or 3 tablets with breakfast and supper
Vitamin C 1000 mg : Take 1 tablet 2 or 3 times a day
Vitamin B Complex: Take 1 tablet a day
Vitamin E 400IU :  Take 1 per day
Co-Enzyme Q10 100mg. Take 1 per day.

Intravenous Vitamins / Minerals

A vitamin / mineral intravenous treatment is administered after every 10 chelation treatments to ensure adequate supplementation. It contains:

ASCORBIC ACID (Vitamin C)
CALCIUM GLUCONATE
MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE
SODIUM BICARBONATE
MTE 5
HYDROXYCOBALAMIN (Vitamin B12)
PYROXIDINE
B-COMPLEX
FOLIC ACID

Heavy Metal Test

After the second treatment patients are required to collect urine for a full 24 hours in a container provided to determine toxic metal levels. The specimen will be sent to the USA for analysis.

Nutrition & Lifestyle

Nutrition plays a vital role in creating good health. Nutrition seminars are provided by a registered dietician on a regular basis in the chelation room. Additional reading material is also contained in this binder.

Final Assessment

The doctor will review your progress & make further suggestions to improve your health. Full benefits may not be realized for up to 3 months after treatment. Ongoing once a month treatments may also be recommended to avoid recurrence of symptoms.
